Hi, Darrin! Thanks for all the great posts. I read them all!!! Do you think you could do a role play class where we practice cold calling as a group? I don't know why it's so terrifying, probably just fear of man! So, silly, but still a huge stumbling block for me. Especially for a new(er) agent. Please consider! :-)

The partnership is only as strong as the partners. We've got a strong MLS in the metro DC area, which does allow them the flexibility and the challenge to be more aggressive in the market space.

I suspect being a single person operation I would have to refer that client off to someone at a large company ... or just let them go. There is no way I could afford that kind of payout for those services. That said, I suspect the term "reasonable accomodation" would let the small operator off the hook. Kind of like the requirements for hearing impaired smoke detectors. While it is required if the buyer client requests them, they cannot demand that the seller pay for them.

Darrin, as the Pentagon Papers anniversary spotlighted, every institution needs to be scrutinized by the "fourth estate." I guess in the case of the dues increase, the members are NAR's fourth estate! I applaud you for asking questions. However, you're incorrect in your Facebook post when you charge that NAR hasn't cut wasteful spending. NAR has cut to the bone in many areas, including at REALTOR Magazine. NAR has scrutinized all its expenses, including all those you raised. I can speak to one of your questions directly and say that REALTOR Magazine's designers are great stewards of your dues money. We spend less than $5000 to bring the five members of the "30 Under 30" class into Chicago once a year. Yes, it is more expensive than other covers, but the magazine also wants to make connections with the future of real estate - and meeting young practitioners face-to-face and encouraging their involvement in the association is valuable. [Ellie, as for the cost of the clothing, we did ask them to bring purple. We also had a stylist bring some purple clothing; of that, we ended up paying for a few shirts - that's it. And bear in mind that the magazine accepts advertising so that very little of your dues money toward the magazine or magazine Web site. Glad you liked the article.]

As the marketing coordinator for my office- Coldwell Banker Johnson & Thomas- I am always looking to pass along what is not only "hot off the press" but what is also going to save them time and ultimately money. Anything that helps them sell more homes in Richmond, Virginia is what I'm looking for!
